Hammersmith Bridge from where T.J. Cobden-Sanderson, friend of Morris, proprietor of Dove's Press and great bookbinder and eccentric dumped his trays of type to prevent them from getting into the hands of former partner Emery Walker.

London October 2011
A pilgrimage to Hammersmith and the hub of "Morrisland". Morris's former home is now the site of The William Morris Society.

Kim by Rudyard Kipling 2006

"Kim" is my favourite Kipling novel.
The binding reflects the two worlds that Kim inhabits. The back cover shows the "red bull in a green field" that is the flag of his deceased father's Irish regiment and the front cover depicts the wheel of life that is the preoccupation of the elderly Tibetan Buddhist lama with whom he travels and who provides protective coloration for Kim as he spies on two Russian agents surveying the border between India and Russia. The spine and edges are goatskin and the sides are painted paper.
