A Wartime Log, Part I

Working on repairing this "Wartime Log"  distributed by the YMCA to Canadian prisoners of war in Germany during World War II. The events and personalities at this POW camp inspired the Paul Brickhill book, and eventually the movie  "The Great Escape." This log features drawings, paintings and writing, contributed by various of the inmates.  Signatures of names like P.W. Hoad and Ley Kenyon, illustrator of  the  Brickhill book, are visible on some of the drawings.  The present owner wanted the original binding restored and a couple of reproduction copies made. The book was disbound from its most recent binding, the original cover art salvaged for inclusion in the restoration and the pages all scanned and printed. Here is a selection of some of the original images and reproductions.  Stay tuned for progress updates.
